Presseerklärung: NATO-Gipfel 2009
Wie in unserer gestrigen Presseerklärung „Massive staatliche Repression im Vorfeld des NATO-Gipfels in Strasbourg, Baden-Baden und Kehl“ bereits vermutet, verfolgen die staatlichen Repressionsorgane in Frankreich und Deutschland weiterhin unbeirrt die angeordneten politischen Ziele, die NATO-GipfelteilnehmerInnen weiträumig und total von ihren zahlreichen KritikerInnen abzuschotten, rechtsstaatliche Schutzstandards und bürgerliche Freiheitsrechte weitreichend außer Kraft zu setzen und jeglichen Protest gegen das 60 Jahre alte Militärbündnis bereits im Keim zu ersticken.
Massive staatliche Repression im Vorfeld des NATO-Gipfels in Strasbourg, Baden-Baden und Kehl
Nachdem es im Rahmen der linken Proteste gegen den diesjährigen NATO-Jubiläums-Gipfel in Strasbourg, Baden-Baden und Kehl, an dem fast 30 RegierungsvertreterInnen aus aller Welt teilnehmen werden, bereits am Rande der Demonstration „Make Militarism History“ in Freiburg am Montagabend zu staatlichen Repressionsmaßnahmen in Form von schikanösen Kontrollen, kurzzeitigen Ingewahrsamnahmen und martialischer Polizeipräsenz gekommen war, setzte sich das behördliche Bemühen, jeglichen Protest gegen das 60 Jahre alte Militärbündnis bereits im Keim zu ersticken, am Dienstagmittag fort.

NATO Summit: Legal Information in different languages
The protests against the NATO summit will have to deal with a huge amount of repression. The situation is complicated by the two legal systems involved – i.e. the French and the German. It is necessary to be well prepared for both legal systems as well as the police forces of both countries that act in different ways. So please check the legal information for Germany as well as the legal information for France! In the weeks before and during the summit, the system of open borders as specified in the Schengen Convention is repealed. The police will conduct controls all along the German-French border and obstruct the activists’ way between the different places of protest.
Legal team
During the protests there will be a legal team which acts on both sides of the border and collects the names and birthdates of persons who have been arrested. The Legal Team stays in contact with lawyers and makes sure that persons who have been arrested get legal support as soon as necessary. It also tries to find out where activists have been taken to (e.g. which police stations or temporary prison cells) and helps to accelerate the process of release. The Legal Team also supports activists on a more psychological level: to know that the situation at the police station or temporary cell is known “outside” and that people are there to support them is a comfort for most arrested activists (as well as maybe their friends or parents) while at the same time it has a controlling effect on the police. Die in Nürnberg sitzende Bundesagentur für Arbeit (BA) hat in Berlin Anfang des Jahres 2009 mehreren Dutzend Hartz-IV-EmpfängerInnen mit Leistungskürzungen gedroht, sollten diese nicht dazu bereit sein, sich beim Inlandsgeheimdienst als „Observationskräfte“ und „Truppführer für den mobilen Einsatz“ zur Verfügung zu stellen. Einziges „Anforderungsprofil“ für die neuen Schlapphüte sei „ein Interesse an politischen Zusammenhängen“, „körperliche Fitness“, „die Bereitschaft zur Unterziehung einer Sicherheitsprüfung“ und „eine flexible Arbeitszeitgestaltung“.

Hallo Unterstützerinnen und Unterstützer von Mumia Abu-Jamal, sicherlich ist den allermeisten von euch der ähnlich gelagerte Fall von Leonard Peltier bekannt. Er war in den frühen 70igern Aktivist der American Indian Movement. 1976 wurde er im Bundesstaat Pennsylvenia wg. angeblichen doppelten Polizistenmordes zu lebenslänglich im Gefängnis verurteilt. Ähnlich wie bei Mumia ist die "Beweisführung" äusserst umstritten. Leonard sitzt als politischer Gefangener seitdem im Gefängnis.
